1873 – 1910
Various Spellings for Antonietta Faracelli Di Crescenzo
Like her husband, my Great Grandmother on my father’s father’s side, has a myriad assortment of name variations which made it extremely difficult to trace her with any certainty. I was able to cross check with other things, such as birth records for her sons, a marriage certificate with both of their names and the spelling on their shared geeeeeeeee.
1896 – The passenger list on the SS Victoria lists her as Annatonia Faricelli
1898 – On their marriage record she is Antonietta Foraselli (28)
1899 – Birth record for Guido – Antonietta Faracillo
1901 – Birth record for Giuseppe – Antonietta De Crescenzo
1905 – The New Jersey Census lists her as Antonetta Crescienze (of possible relatives living in the same apartment 4 are spelled Farricelli, and 4 are spelled Farricella. More on these people below under Antonietta’s Origins
1910 – Her gravestone has her as Antonetta Di Criscenzo

Antonietta’s Origins
I could find no record of Antonetta’s birth. According to the 1905 Census, she is from Italy, but we don’t know where. In Antenati Italiana, there are 465 ancestor records with the surname Faricelli and all but 3 are from the Pescara area. 326 are from Civitaquana and 121 from Pianella, but I could find no Antonietta Faricelli born in around 1873. The only record of her death is the 1910 date on her gravestone in Holy Sepulture Cemetery in Totowa, NJ.
Prior to 1902, passenger lists didn’t require or record much information for steerage passengers, so where either of them lived prior to getting aboard the SS Victoria, is anyone’s guess. Although they both departed from Naples on the same ship, the SS Victoria, their dates of departure and arrival were 4 months apart. Did they know one another prior to leaving? Annatonia’s passenger list states that her destination was Wappingers Fall, NY. Did they meet in Naples while waiting for their ships and agree to meet in Wappingers Falls to marry?
In the 1905 Census, in addition to Bernardino and Antonietta and their four sons, there are 7 people with Antonietta’s maiden name (Farricelli) living at 12 Ellison St. Paterson, N.J. It is not clear if they are all sharing the same apartment.
Vincenzo Farricelli is the eldest at 44 – one year younger than Bernardino. Four other males (brothers and/or sons), Donato (28), Nicola (28) Titino (21), Giuseppe (21) are also listed, a female, Luigina, a 1 yr old child, Maria. A little further down was Paolino Farricella (20)
I tried searching for this combination of names in other sources, to see if I could get more information about Antonietta. I had hoped that the Faricelli’s listed at 12 Ellison St. Paterson could have offered a path back to Antonietta’ origins in Italy. They were listed as:
The little family of Nicola (father), Luigina (mother) and Maria (baby) turned out to be a goldmine linking them back to Cvitaquana, the village near Pescara on the eastern coast of central Italy. It turned out that both Nicola (Nicholas) and his wife had the Faricelli surname name (as did their daughter Mary and her husband Edidio) and I could trace both of their family histories back three generations to 1784, including 50 ancestors.
BUT, in all of those 50 names there wasn’t one name that resembled Antonietta. Although she was only about 4 years older than Nicola, and could be his sister, she is not listed as a child of Fiorideo Faricelli and Zopita Trabucco. (there was a Giuseppe Trabucco (33) also listed as living in that 12 Ellison St. household in 1905)!. There was only one clue that there could be a connection between Nicholas and Antonietta – he named his youngest child (born 1907) Antoniette! I’m thinking that Antonietta was indeed the sister of Nicola, and perhaps there were other siblings, but whoever developed this part of the family tree was only interested in Nicola.
